Abstract

This paper explores the dual role of Indian classical music as both a form of preservation and
innovation within contemporary concert settings. Indian classical music, with its deep roots in
tradition, has consistently evolved to meet the changing demands of its audience while
maintaining core principles of ragas, talas, and improvisation. The paper examines how modern
performances blend traditional and innovative elements, including the role of technology, new
instrumentation, and cross-cultural influences. Through the analysis of notable musicians,
concerts, and scholarly discourse, this study aims to provide insights into the dynamic nature of
Indian classical music as a performance art.
